Justine Oldfield-Rowell, Chair AIP Executive Team member since 1999 Tel: 0191 384 8179, Email: jor@bacp.co.uk Private practitioner and supervisor in Newcastle upon Tyne ‘I joined AIP some years before serving on the executive committee, because the Division s then title intrigued me, seemingly covering a number of interesting aspects from the world of counselling. My current special interests lie in the world of supervision and of learning more about working with DID clients. I work as an independent counsellor in private practice and also take referrals from some of the many EAPs.'
Margaret Akmakjian-Pitz, Deputy Chair and Editor AIP Executive Team member since 1988 Tel: 01267 221 534, Email: o2quiver@aol.com Private practitioner and supervisor in Southwest Wales 'I joined the executive team to give me more insight into the workings of BACP. I also found that it lessened the isolation that I, like other independent practioners, experience. I would also like to try to help raise the profile of AIP and I hope that both my industrial and charitable sector experience will be of assistance in achieving this'
Susie Holden Smith AIP Executive Team member since 2003 Tel: 01322 558798, Email: susan.holdensmith@btinternet.com Primary care counsellor, university lecturer, private counsellor in Kent ‘Since joining AIP executive committee I have been mainly involved as the Minutes Secretary, writing book reviews and public relations. This has given me the opportunity to keep up to date with what is happening at BACP and to enjoy meeting independent practitioners from all over the country at training days. The Committee get on well together both personally and professionally which helps to create interesting and stimulating training events for our members.'

Wendy Halsall AIP Executive Team member 2008 Tel: 01507 343301, Email: wehalsall@yahoo.co.uk Private Practitioner I work in private practice in a rural environment and my main aim in working with my fellow executive members is in trying to lessen the isolation felt by many independent practitioners. I am also very keen to support counsellors who are trying to build up a practice as I recognise how difficult this can be.
John Crew AIP Executive Team member since 2007 Tel: 01285 810338, 07979 346322, Email: jopacs@tiscali.co.uk Private Practitioner Having been in private practice for over 10 years, joining the executive is giving me the opportunity to look at the problems of isolation in this area and consider ways of creating a more supportive practitioner network.
Bruce Letchford AIP Executive Team member 2009 Tel: 0208 777 9193, Email: bruceletchford@tiscali.co.uk Charity Manager, Private Practitioner and Supervisor in South East London My aim in joining the executive team was to gain greater knowledge of how BACP works. As an independent practitioner I also value the networking opportunities available. I hope to contribute to raising AIP's status using the experience I have gained in the charitable sector and my work in South East London.
Joe Callaghan AIP Executive Team member 2009 Tel: 07950 913 795, Email: joedcallaghan@yahoo.com Private Practitioner I joined the team in a time of renewal and as part of a drive to recruit new members onto the executive. The association was helpful when I was beginning to set up in private practice so I would like to play my part in helping others to do the same. I find the journal both informative and interesting. I hope to expand the membership of the division by exploring ways of making it more appealing to the wider membership of BACP, as I believe there is an important voice to be heard by independent practitioners during this time of the regulation of our profession. There are implications for the many non-cognitive behavioural independent therapists in the light of the Government's drive for access to psychological therapies. On a personal note I started working as a counsellor eight years ago, and currently run a counselling service within the NHS at a medical centre in South London. I have also had a private practice for the past four years. |
